Jesse Lopez

The Excellence in Agriculture Award is designed as an opportunity for Young Farmers & Ranchers who do not derive the majority of their income from an owned agricultural operation, while actively contributing and growing through their involvement in Farm Bureau and agriculture, to earn recognition. Participants are judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e., civic, service and community).

Congratulations to the 2009 Excellence in Agriculture winner, Jesse Lopez of Monterey County. Lopez was named the recipient of the award during the California Farm Bureau Federation's 91st Annual Meeting in Anaheim.

Lopez is the Western Sales Service Manager for the largest-family owned grower, packer and shipper of fresh Iceberg lettuce and fresh line of premium quality produce. On a daily basis he is the face of the farmer as he markets California's premium produce to retail customers such as Safeway, Wal-Mart and Save Mart.

Jesse was the 2009 Chair of the Central Coast Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee, is a graduate of California's Leadership Farm Bureau program and is active in many different service groups in his hometown of Salinas when he's not out riding bulls and traveling the rodeo circuit.
