Committee of the Year Spotlight

Congratulations

Congratulations to the 2009 Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee of the Year, San Joaquin Young Farmers & Ranchers!

This annual award recognizes YF&R County Committees that are active in promoting Farm Bureau, and continually working to support the goals and policies of both the county and state organization.

In 2009, San Joaquin YF&Rs doubled their membership list and the number of active participants. They volunteered at the County Farm Bureau's FARM PAC fundraiser, helped at the County Annual Meeting, Ag Education Dinner and at the Annual Ag Education wine tasting events. Up to four committee members attend each County Farm Bureau Board meeting, with one of their members serving on the county's Rural Health and Safety Committee and two representing the group on the CFBF Commodity Advisory Committees.

An impressive 89% of San Joaquin's YF&R members are members of Farm Team and in the past year the group took on one of the most innovative project concepts CFBF has ever seen. Young Buck Chuck, the official wine of the San Joaquin YF&R Committee, made its debut! From picking and crushing the grapes, to bottling their own product, these YF&Rs were involved in every aspect of the wine-making process.

The Committee of the Year award goes to the county who makes the most of participating in their organization. It is granted to those who support state level activities, but also to those who are creative and innovative with their educational, social, and fundraising efforts on the home front. Does your committee have what it takes?
