Program Coordinator, Political Affairs
Summary: Provide support to the Political Affairs Manager by assisting with fundraising, campaign reporting, grassroots activities and special events to further the organization’s political objectives.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Facilitate fundraising projects such as direct mail campaigns and county FARM PAC events, including data entry of contributions received and disbursed.
- Utilize the membership database to generate reports to evaluate fundraising programs and progress.
- Coordinate accurate reporting of political activity with outside firm to develop campaign reports.
- Assist in executing grassroots activities for the general membership, including coordinating with policy staff to draft action alerts and planning special events to increase the organization’s exposure to elected officials and candidates for office.
- Assist in developing presentations, handouts and materials to further the program agenda.
- Other related office duties, as needed.
Specifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Political Science, Communications or related field preferred.
- 2-3 years experience in agricultural community focusing on member relations, program development.
- Involvement in the legislative process or governmental relations preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as the ability to learn and work within membership database program.
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a sometimes fast-paced environment.
Curriculum Coordinator
California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom (CFAITC) is dedicated to helping students and teachers across our great state gain an understanding of how agriculture provides the daily essentials necessary to make our society and our world function. With more than 7 million students in California, it is essential that these children—the next generation of consumers, parents and decision-makers—grow up with an understanding of agriculture's critical contributions to our society.
Summary: The Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for curriculum design and development, training and professional development, grant writing and providing overall direction for several key CFAITC programs.
Essential Duties:
- Facilitate writing meetings with teachers, industry leaders and non-traditional educators in an effort to identify users' needs, analyze, organize and transform agricultural concepts into professionally designed, engaging, and effective instructional activities.
- Formulate instructional activities, lesson plans, teacher guides and supplements, comprehensive units, student newspapers, and other related materials.
- Oversee curriculum pilot testing in California classrooms to ensure that materials are accurate, consistent and effective.
- Supervise the work product of contracted writers, designers and editors related to curriculum projects.
- Design and deliver agricultural-related educational workshops to teachers and students in a variety of settings.
- Assist in planning and overseeing workshops and seminars at the Annual CFAITC conference and other company-sponsored events.
- Represent CFAITC at agriculture and education events in an effort to showcase curriculum and programs.
- Under direction of Executive Director, source creative and appropriate projects from a variety of funding sources including state, federal or foundation grants.
- Contribute to the development of project narratives, budgets, timelines and objectives for a variety of projects.
- Collect data to develop thorough and complete information for grant reporting requirements.
- Lead CFAITC's involvement in the WE Garden, a collaborative project with First Lady Maria Shriver and area schools by coordinating the planning, planting and harvesting of the edible garden at the California state capitol.
- Facilitate the Agriculture Literacy Coalition Northern and Southern California annual meetings, including event logistics, compiling materials, managing attendance and related correspondence, and meeting follow-up.
- In partnership with the California Department of Food and Agriculture, serve as budget and booth participation coordinator for Capitol Agriculture Day, an annual outreach opportunity that connects the agriculture industry to public officials and consumers.
Accountabilities:
- Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to ensure all curricula are unbiased, accurate and science-based.
- Successfully align activities and curriculum to the California State Content Standards.
- Effectively develop and deliver professional presentations, workshops and training to diverse audiences, including students, educators, and other community members, ranging from 30 to 250.
- Consistently demonstrate accurate technical writing skills.
- Knowledgeable about a variety of current agricultural practices in an effort to incorporate relevant concepts into instructional materials.
- Proficient in instructional design and knowledgeable about best practices for student assessment, differentiated instruction and comprehension strategies.
- Participate in the planning, coordination and execution of professional development opportunities for educators. Opportunities may take the form of teacher in-service training, conference workshops and webinars.
- Actively solicit educator feedback via pilot testing and ongoing surveys, and implement suggestions when appropriate.
Specifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education or agriculture-related field required.
- Valid California Teaching Credential and a minimum of 2 years teaching experience (traditional or non-traditional) beyond student teaching preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the California State Content Standards.
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) required. Basic proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and InDesign preferred.
- Ability to travel within California (some overnight) up to 5 days per month.
